First Russian-Ukrainian sailing polar expedition! По-русски

Length of the yacht “Scorpius” - 29.45 meters.

This is a sport, fast and easy-manageable vessel, which doesn't demand a numerous crew. This is one of the most fine sailing yachts in the world. The yacht is splendidly smooth to go at any speed, thanks to her hydraulic rolling system for all sails and extended bowthruster. The design engineer Peter Sijm had created a steel super yacht that combines traditions and novelty in comfort, equipment and function. Her advantages – particularly open cabin and closed sedan deck.

Energy consumption of the boat  - very high

During work of a new generator, fuel consumption comes up to 75 liters a day, 12 kilowatt is required for support of navigation, illumination, refrigerators and preparation of food (stove work).

If work of winches is needed, it's necessary to switch on another generator, which power is 24 kW. It consumes twice more fuel.

Without turning on a power generator and a main engine, life-support endurance of the boat comes up to 120 days.

Reserve of operational fuel tanks – 5 thousand liters, plus consumption tank on 300 liters. Additional tanks with general capacity 4.800 liters are installed. By such means in the whole supply of fuel comes up to 10 thousand liters.

There's preliminary agreement with the Russian vessel “ACADEMICIAN FEDOROV” in order to receive required fuel at the end of January 2012.

(From 8 to 10 ton of fuel is planned to top up on the station “MIRNY”)

At the end of January – beginning of February the Russian icebreaker “CAPITAIN DRANITSYN” will work. That means additional opportunity to top up a fuel reserve.

Consumption of fuel depends on many factors: weather, current, speed of the boat.

The yacht “SCORPIUS” is targeted to pass 70 thousand nautical miles.

As reference: one nautical mile is 1852 meters.

General length of the route: 130 thousand km.
